Alexei Othenin-Girard Guest Writes for the Show

Alexei writes things for usDear Steve and Danodores,

Do not panic!  I know this is going to be difficult for everyone involved, but if you bear with me, we’ll all get out of this with only minimal bruising and surface burns.  Now, I realize the fact that I’ve been asked to write the post for this episode of the Dan & Steve show may be a little disconcerting for some of you, but I assure you, that burning sensation is PERFECTLY NATURAL.  Just read slowly, breathe, and remember:  I’m more afraid of you than you are of me.  Feel free to think of me naked if it will help to allay your worries.

From the very beginning, the Dan & Steve Show has been about more than just calligraphy and jokes about Soviet fire hydrants.  It’s been about values, about decent American values.  Yes, every episode of the Dan & Steve Show is a testament to the things that make this country great, like calligraphy and Soviet fire hydrants.  Also, sometimes the Dan & Steve Show is about large-scale construction equipment, and that’s something else that makes this country great.

So I implore you, as you enjoy the Dan & Steve Show, don’t simply laugh at the witty commentary, or become flushed and aroused over the impeccable lettering.  Rather, look beneath the moist, supple curves of the surface of the joke, and pierce deep into the moral heart of each strip, because I assure you, the moral is worth it.  Like in this strip, which teaches us how to send a letter to Santa.

When I set out to write this post, I was like a fledgling bird, taking its first unsteady steps outside the nest.  Here in the cruel branches of this electronic tree, I spread my feeble wings and sought to soar.  Now, broken, I lie on the ground and wait to be eaten by ants.

And can’t we all learn something from that?

Love,

Alexei
